Step 1 is making sure you have a clear vision articulated. A great place to start for this is with your strategic plan. When writing your strategic plan, keep measurable metrics in mind. It is also essential to include people with diverse perspectives on your team when drafting your plan.

Step 2 is identifying your Key Performance Growth Indicators (KPGI). These metrics are quantitative data that may or may not exist in your current systems. In this step, you will want to identify these metrics, how and where they are being measured, and “clean up” your data collection and reporting processes so you know your data is telling your story accurately.

Step 3 is establishing processes for district teams to use the data to inform their practices. We’ve created “Data Walks” that can be used with District Administration, School Leaders, Interventionists, and Teachers to drive the work.

Step 4 is communicating your progress with different stakeholders. Now that you have aligned your data to your district’s vision, identified and cleaned up your metrics, and you have district teams using that data to drive growth, you are able to communicate that individualized growth to relevant stakeholders including the School Board, Community, Students, Parents, and Staff.
