Identifying your vision and establishing a plan for student achievement has to be the first step. If you already have a strategic plan that outlines your vision, you can move onto the next step, which is Measuring Progress. If not, here are practical steps to help you in creating your vision for student achievement
Assemble Your Team
You want people not only who can create a good plan, but also those who understand how the plan can be carried out.
Define Student Achievement
Everyone’s picture of a successful student includes Academic achievement, but does that give you the whole picture? Do you also want to graduate students who are ready for their Careers? Do you also want graduates who have the ability to persevere and be confident as they enter the real world? If you answered yes to either of these questions, we challenge you to also include Career and Life preparedness in your plan. Just because some of these are considered, “soft skills”, doesn’t mean there can’t be hard data that measures progress in these areas.
Evaluate for Clarity
This plan isn’t something that is going to sit on a shelf, which means you need people to understand it. Not only do people need to understand it, but they need to understand the part that they play in carrying out the plan. That doesn’t mean you need to articulate out each step for each person or department, but rather provide the framework in which people can align their goals.
